Nothing Goes to Waste: How Our Scrunchies Are Born

Every dress we make starts with a length of beautiful fabric. And when the cutting is done, there's always something left over — offcuts, strips, small remnants that are too good to throw away. So we don't. Instead, they become scrunchies.

The Leftover Problem Most Brands Ignore

Fabric waste is one of the fashion industry's most overlooked problems. Even in small-batch production, cutting garments to pattern always leaves offcuts behind. For most brands, those scraps end up in landfill. It's a quiet, unglamorous part of the process that rarely gets talked about.

At Label Arjn, we decided early on that we weren't comfortable with that. If we'd chosen a fabric carefully — for its feel, its print, its quality — it felt wrong to let any of it go to waste.

From Dress to Scrunchie

The process is simple, but the intention behind it matters. After each run of dresses is cut and sewn, we gather the remaining fabric pieces. Strips and offcuts that would otherwise be discarded are sorted, cut to size, and hand-sewn into scrunchies.

This means every scrunchie in our collection is made from the exact same fabric as one of our dresses — the same hand block-printed cotton, the same carefully chosen viscose, the same quality we put into every garment. They're not an afterthought. They're the full circle of the process.

Why This Matters to Us

Slow fashion isn't just about buying less or buying better — it's about making better decisions at every stage of production. Using leftover fabric for scrunchies is a small thing, but small things add up. It means less waste, more value from every metre of fabric we source, and a product that carries the same story as the dress it came from.

When you buy a Label Arjn scrunchie, you're not just getting a hair accessory. You're getting the last piece of a garment's story — the part that would have been lost.

Mix, Match, and Complete the Look

Because our scrunchies are made from the same fabric runs as our dresses, they're a natural match for the garments in our collection. Pair a Flora Drift scrunchie with the Flora Drift dress for a considered, coordinated look — or mix prints for something more playful. Either way, nothing goes to waste.
